Inspiration

This dragon is based on Genie from Disney's Aladdin. Kali came up with the name, and Bast fleshed him out.

Hatchling Description

The edges of this dragonet are dark, nearly black, accentuating the swirls of cornflower across his Persian blue hide. His muzzle bears a shadowy coloration, the navy hints seeming to form the shape of a thin goatee around his maw. A matching splash of color sits right between his eyes while his headknobs are tinged in black, giving a spritely, friendly appearance. The tell-tale swirls seem to ebb and flow across his abdomen and down his back, hinting at smoke and hidden secrets. His wings are slightly darker than the rest of his body, the pigment darkening as the wings unfurl, combining at the tips reminiscent of dark, starlit nights.

Personality

Jinith is hyper. He loves life. He loves you. He's utterly devoted to you. However, he's easily distracted by anything.

« Oh, look! It's a VTOL! I'm going to go get him. » … « Straps? What about my straps? No, no, the VTOL! It flew away! » If you try to rein him in, it will be hard, especially at first, because he'll misunderstand, and think he's disappointed you. And that makes him extremely sad. « I didn't mean to! I was just trying to reach the … » He'll get so sad that he'll just stop whatever he's doing. Which is almost as bad as being distracted. But once in a while, he'll just get it. « Ohhhhhh! » When this happens, be prepared for intuitive leaps of logic and connections that just might solve mysteries.
He also has a penchant for words. Not for meanings or rhymes, but for the sound of particular words.

Aladdin: Princess Jasmine, you're very…
Genie: Wonderful! Magnificent! Glorious!… Punctual!
Aladdin: Punctual!
Princess Jasmine: Punctual?
Genie: Sorry.
Aladdin: Uh… uh… beautiful!
Genie: Nice recovery.

Jinith is powerful, physically and mentally. If he could only direct that power, he would be a force to be reckoned with. However, there isn't much chance of that ever happening.

PHENOMENAL COSMIC POWERS!!! Ittty-bitty living space.

He loves to help his friends, or you, but hates being told what to do. So, this will make Weyrlinghood especially fun. You may have to learn how to phrase things so that he's 'helping you' instead following the WLM's orders. Otherwise, be prepared for him to stubbornly refuse.

Jinith loves shiny things. Well, not like metals or gems, or things like that. No. Your Jinith likes things like the sun hitting the raindrops and sparkling in his eye, or the way one of your fellow weyrlings' hair glimmers when the glows hit it just right. He might fly off course just a little to see it again, or make you follow that poor friend at juuust the right angle. Most of the time, this isn't an issue. During threadfall, though, you'll have to promise him that you'll come back afterward, or let him gaze at the sunset on the lake for a while.

One thing that will frighten him is someone (other than you) who has a very strong and grumpy personality. He won't like J'cobi much at all. « Can't some other bronze fly her next time, please? I don't like listening to him. He's too loud! » However, he'll buckle down and listen, doing what the authority says, and encouraging you to do the same. « No, no, K'din. You'd better just follow along. » This might cause a few arguments between the two of you.

Genie: [turns into a cheerleader] Rick 'em, rack 'em, rock 'em, rake. Stick that sword into that snake!
Jafar: You stay out of thissss!
Genie: [Weakly] Jafar, Jafar, he's our man. If he can't do it, GREAT!

Also, he'll probably be very open to Balkrith's 'cunning plans'. Because the normal way of doing things will not be what he wants to do. If there's a bass-ackwards way for Jinith to do something, or for you to do something for him, that's how he'll want to do it. Like he might have you try oiling him first, then bathing him — just once to see how it goes. He'll be open to guidance that it wasn't a good idea and we'll never do it again, but everything must be tried at least once.

Mind Voice

Your blue talks to you in all sorts of different ways. One day, he'll speak in a deep bass with the sounds of horns behind him, and the next it's a high tenor with strings. There is always some sort of music, and it's usually peppy! Unless he's really sad. Then the music stops, and the tone of voice deepens really low. Think Robin Williams, and you've got it.

To others, Jinith often rhymes, in a cadence. Not because it's rhymes, or out of any sense of need, but simply because it's the most fun way to talk! His clutchmates may tire of his commentary, but he will keep on prattling, making jokes and laughing, teasing things out of each one if he possibly can.

Mind Scent

Jinith has a very spicy scent. A lot of the spices of the Middle East pervade his words, especially when he's. Making. A. Point. Cardamon comes to mind, as do jasmine and honey. Sometimes, when he's angry, he pulls out a goodly sprinkling of black pepper. Don't be surprised if you sneeze when he's mad.

Physical Voice

Your blue is physically loud, and his bugle can grate. Not so loud that it hurts, but the sound is louder than the average. He considers himself a herald of sorts, and can bugle when happy. This might happen at very odd times, though.

Movement and Growth

Here's the dragon who grows in weird spurts, much like his mental processes. First, it'll be his wings. They'll stretch out, growing wider every day, or so it seems, and then just … stop. He'll get puzzled by this for like five minutes. Then, he'll be thinking of something else. Next, he'll gain girth and length, and then his limbs will catch up. Lather, rinse and repeat.

When Jinith walks, he tries to hop. Or skip. Or twist his legs around in some silly manner. When he hatches and when he first starts out, this will mean lots of falls. But he won't be daunted; instead he'll find it hilarious, unless you don't.

Flying will be a chore to learn, mainly because he won't want to follow established patterns of learning. He'll want to find his own methods of takeoff and landing. Be prepared for more crashes until he's mastered just the right way. And then, he might change his mind several times.

Flights

When a green takes off, Jinith isn't far behind. He follows the green, narrating things as he goes. If something catches his eye, he will wander off for a bit, but with his physical strength, it won't take long for him to catch back up. If he remembers in time.

When he does catch, he will serenade his lady, and take care of her at least for that evening and the next morning. He'll make sure you're okay first, of course, and then he'll be solicitous to the green. However, as soon as something interesting comes up, he's out of there. He won't care if you decide to make something of the situation, or if you too walk.

Eating Habits

Jinith eating is a sight, to put it mildly. He's indecisive and messy. He has a hard time choosing which critter to eat, and when he finally does choose it, he can't decide which part of the animal to eat first. Well, or he eats some, and then decides he wants to eat something else. If you compare it to a person, this would be the guy who'd mix up his mac and cheese with his salad, and eat that way, because otherwise, he'd take one bite of one, then a bite of another.

Egg

Egg Name: Uncut Beauty Egg
Egg Desc: Dark gray in general color, the most notable thing about this egg is its shape - it is somewhat squared off, as if it rested too much on one side and then was turned. The shell is roughly textured, shadows flickering across the uneven shades of gray that decorate its blocky surface. Here and there the fuzzy colors clarify into shining silvery-white, the brightness peeking out from amidst the murk that shrouds the egg.

Hatching Foo

EGGPOSE1: Uncut Beauty Egg will be strong. Diamonds do not crack. Nosirree. They remain strong. Forever. This egg will — what was that? It shakes slightly, then gets itself back under control, falling quiescent again.

EGGPOSE2: Another tremor passes through the Uncut Beauty Egg. Groundshake!! That's the only reasonable explanation. And even then, it isn't going to break. Never! Oh, no. With another shake, a tiny crack appears.

HATCHING_POSE: Giving one last wobble, the Uncut Beauty Egg does not so much 'hatch' as 'explode'. Shards of this egg's shell fly high up in the air, falling like crackdust. What remains is a large blue dragonet. Happily Hyper Desert Blue Hatchling shakes his wings off, stopping a few times to examine his wings, to sniff at a small piece of egg shard, and to look back at the collection of eggs. It takes him several tries to remember which direction he was going in the first place.

PUBLIC_IMPRESSION: Happily Hyper Blue Desert Hatchling stops to stare at a small piece of shiny shell. What was he doing? Oh, yes. Food. He pauses in front of a girl interested in her shoes. No, those aren't right. She isn't his diamond in the rough. Oh. There he is. The burly blue looks up at the tanned, dirty, black-brown haired lad, gazing directly into his eyes.

PRIVATE_IMPRESSION: The sounds of distant music draw nearer, and the strong scents of cardamon and jasmine pour into your mind, near to the point of overwhelming you. Suddenly, there is a loud voice calling your name. « Hey, hey, K'din, why so sad?? » The music strikes up a cheery tune. « Oooh, that's interesting. You got in trouble, didn't you? You got in trouble, you got in trouble!! » The voice refers to some of your less intelligent decisions in a sing-song voice. « Oh. Wait. Why are we out here? » A smoke from burning incense swirls though, giving the possibility of dizziness. « Food. I'm hungry. Aren't you hungry? Hun-gry. That's a funny word. Hun-hun-hungry. » He seems to have forgotten something important. « My name. That's right. I'm supposed to tell you my name. I'm Jinith. » Pride pours through you both at his being able to remember. « Now. Can we get some food? »
