With the brightest of contrasts, what once was a desolate, dry and empty scoop in the ground is now a full and luscious lake. Water laps against the shoreline in a gentle internal current, while in the very center, it seems almost eerily calm. A small sign hung on the highest bit of twine states 'LAKE HOPELESS' in forcibly fancy script, yet there doesn't seem to be any apparent reason for the title. Maybe one of the residents knows.

The sun is just dipping below the Weyr's rim, and the earlier drizzling rain has just eased off. That hasn't been enough to stop Ci from coming out and taking a dip in the lake, however - the weather's warm, after all - and so the rider can be found deep enough in the water to paddle around. She's not /crazy/ though, and is wearing her swimming gear. Modesty and all. Suosith is nowhere to be seen, likely disapproving of her weyrmate's nighttime swim. Ci looks happy enough with her current occupation, and given how wet her hair and face are, she's likely been here a while.

Nenienne had about the same idea, apparently, for she is also wearing her bathing outfit and is carrying a towel. Leaving the latter on the shore, she splashes into the lake, not pausing to adjust for the temperature, and not appearing to see Ciara since she's swimming right toward her and not looking like she's about to slow down.

Someone entering the water causes Ciara to look round, and after a second she twigs who it is. By the time she's turned the rest of her body to face the direction she's looking, Nenienne's almost on top of her, and so Ci calls out a, "Neni!" No panic or anger, just letting the crafter know that someone else is there, and possibly about to get mown down!

Nenienne hears her name called just in time, and stops mid-stroke. She squints a bit, then recognizes Ciara and her face brightens. "Hello, Ci! How are you and Suosith doing?" she asks, as if they were meeting in the Living Cavern or something instead of mid-lake.

Ciara bobs in place, sensing that Nenienne's trying to get an identifying look at her and not wanting to make the task more difficult, and then grins as there's recognition. "Good, thank you! Well, me moreso than Suosith, I think," she adds in a more conspiratorial tone, though her tone is good-humoured, whatever it is that she's implying. "How're you?" She seems at ease in the water, the odd location for conversation not bothering her.

Nenienne begins treading water as well and answers, "Pretty well. No commissions at the moment, which is a nice contrast to doing two or three at once. As long as it's brief. So, are you out here for fun, exercise, or both?"

"The attention you put into your work, I don't blame you for appreciating not having to do a load at once," Ci says, the admiration for Neni's work on her necklace clear in her words. "Suosith adored the necklace by the way - thank you so much for it. I'm amazed she didn't insist I wear it even just coming down here," she adds, smiling with a mixture of amusement and affection. As to the question of why she's here: "a bit of both I guess, yeah. Suosith keeps me working hard enough, but this is relaxing /and/ exercise, so it's sorta nice. What about you?"

Nenienne blushes, though whether it's visible in the low-light is anyone's guess, and ducks her head. "I'm glad she liked it, and that it wasn't too gaudy for you. If she ever tries to make you wear it for swimming, remind her that while pearls may have come from the water originally, tourmaline and gold didn't." There's a definite hint of laughter in her voice. "I'm out here mostly for fun, though the exercise is a definite plus. I try to swim at night because there's not so much of the dodging every dragon and their rider like in the daytime."

Ciara can't see Neni's blush - she's spared any potential embarrassment at it being noticed! She laughs at the gemcrafter's reminder. "I can tell her it came straight from your mouth, that warning," she notes, amusement in her tone. Then she's nodding as Neni explains her reasons for the swim. "Oh, I know what you mean. Suosith insists on being bathed at the busiest time, so everyone can see her. I swear I end up getting splashed by other dragons more than I get wet just washing her. I can't imagine what it'd be like at a busier Weyr!"

Nenienne nods, then quips, still amusedly, "Of course, I come here at night when it should be empty and I almost crash into you." Then, out of the blue, she asks, "How are L'ron and Balkrith doing? I haven't seen any turnip piles in the bowl recently. IS he feeling quite all right?"

Ciara's smirk is likely mostly lost in the darkness, but she's smirking nonetheless. "I like t'get in the way, what can I say?" She's more serious when she answers the query about L'ron, though. "They're busy with the usual stuff - drills and all that. I try not to stay up too late working on my hides and disturbing him when he's trying to sleep. Even though we're both riders, it feels like we live pretty different lives…it's weird. Not how I imagined being a rider to be like, I guess?"

Nenienne nods. "And, of course, with you being a weyrwoman, your job is going to be different from all of the other colors, really. I wonder how consistent the jobs are within the colors?" She sighs, then says, "I'm just hoping someday to be important enough to warrants a firelizard egg, just so I can get a hint of what it might be like."

Ciara shrugs, as much as one can while staying afloat in water. "The lines between colours' jobs can blur a surprise amount, I've found. And you should stand for Suosith's clutch, when she has one - you've already been Searched, so you can stand again as you like, far as I've been led to believe." Smiling, she glances in the direction of her weyr, before looking back apologetically at Neni. "Sorry Neni, Suosith's telling me it's time to stop 'swimming around in the dark'. I'll catch you around!" With that parting comment, the rider is already swimming for the shore, to wade out and collect her own towel before she heads off across the bowl.

Nenienne resumes her swimming in the dark, fortunately not mowing anyone else down. Eventually she heads to shore, dries off, and heads into the Weyr proper.
