Inspiration

Bast decided to base this dragon on William Wallace. He's pretty noble after all. Uallas is “Wallace” in Scots Gaelic.

Hatchling Description

Reds, yellows and dark browns color this large bronze hatchling's hide in an odd pattern that could best be seen on a weaver's loom. Overall, his hide is a reddish bronze, shaded like his dam's, but the thin lines of yellow and dark brown are almost venial in appearance, though too straight to be ichor vessels. The darker lines are as thick as a rider's finger and the yellow lines are much thinner, reminiscent of a tanner's thinnest strips of leather. The two colors seem to variegate with the bronze, especially in places where the muscles naturally recess. His limbs are well-muscled, and his wings are wide. His head is a little smaller than might be properly proportional.

Personality

Uallath values freedom. He values equality. Everything to him is about fairness and non-judgement. If there is something that he doesn't think is appropriate, he will step in and attempt to fix it in the best way he knows how. This will cause problems immediately, as you will encounter unfairness, and probably already have. Uallath will berate Velth or any of the others who appear to be planning something, if he gets wind of it. However, he will be a good guide to you, informing you when you're being less than honest, less than wise, or less than fair. « Hey, there, J'ret. Don't do that. It wouldn't be fair to her. Let her go first, and you can take what she doesn't need. »

Robert the Bruce: I'm not a coward. I want what you want, but we need the nobles.
William Wallace: We need them?
Robert the Bruce: Aye.
William Wallace: Nobles.
[laughs a little]
William Wallace: Now tell me, what does that mean to be noble? Your title gives you claim to the throne of our country, but men don't follow titles, they follow courage. Now our people know you. Noble, and common, they respect you. And if you would just lead them to freedom, they'd follow you. And so would I

This bronze is both a lover and a fighter. He appreciates the ladies, or at least one or two at a time. However, his strong sense of fair play and justice will see him bowing to the ladies' wishes, or maybe his rider's. You are his prime heartmate; your justice and care are paramount. He'll want you to do the same. If you have a weyrmate, he'll be deferential to her, and prod at you to do things for her. She'll be one lucky girl.

Murron: You're going to teach me to read, then?
William Wallace: Aye, if you'd like.
Murron: Aye!
William Wallace: In what language?
Murron: Ah, you're showing off now.
William Wallace: That's right. Are you impressed yet?
Murron: No. Why? Should I be?
William Wallace: Oui. Parce que chaque jour j'ai pensé à toi.
[Yes. Because every single day I've thought about you]
Murron: [hesitates, impressed despite herself, then smiles] Do that standing on your head and I'll be impressed.
William Wallace: Well, my kilt will fly up, but I'll try.

Thread is the ultimate injustice. It steals, kills and destroys without a thought to place or want. So, when Thread falls, Uallath will be among the first to rise to meet it. He will be an excellent wing member, and with a minimal amount of training, he has the potential to be an excellent wingleader's dragon.

All of this good behavior comes with a price, though. Uallath will be very stubborn about two things. You (and you getting what you deserve), and defending the ideals of the Progressive movement. He will never push for anything more than discussion and pressing forward, but in his mind, knowledge is tantamount to freedom, and so AIVAS' information is a good thing.

It's all for nothing if you don't have freedom. — Wallace (Braveheart)

In that vein, he will also gently question some of the former crafters' dragons. They will be questioned about what they know, and what their riders know about their craft. If it starts to annoy, he'll pull back, but once they forget, and he forgets, he'll try again. « Does it hurt after you close him up? I can't see but that it would hurt terribly. How do they prevent that? »

One random fact about your bronze: He likes rain.

[William has asked Murron to go riding with him in the rain]
Mother MacClannough: In this? You're out of your mind!
William Wallace: Oh, it's good Scottish weather, madam. The rain is falling straight down. Well, slightly to the side like.

He'll love the 'winter rainy season' on the Southern continent. When things get too hot in the Summer sun, he may ask to vacation in Boll or some other port in the North that has Rain. Maybe Nerat. But he won't go there unless you want to, and it's safe for you and he as progressives (he'll assume you're of the same mind. You must be, after all; you're his!).

Mind Voice

Uallath's mindvoice is low, soft, and full of quiet strength. The background sounds are mostly natural: things like the sound of a quiet rain, the crackling of a warm fire and sometimes more … pastoral sounds, as well, like ovines, herdbeasts or maybe a rushing brook. His voice itself is a deep burr. If you like, you can draw the accent in a bit, but it's not overpowering. It's a comforting bass that doesn't usually get much louder than necessary to make his point.

When he sees an injustice or when he fights Thread, his mindvoice clanks like metal meeting metal, and thunder's booms echo through. There are the screams of battle and the sounds of war as well.

Mind Scent

His mindscent follows the sounds previously mentioned. New-mown grass, fresh fallen rain, and burning peat in a fire. When roused, the scents of battle might overwhelm you, especially at first. Or, when he's especially angry, the scents of a thunderstorm might intermingle. Ozone.

Physical Voice

Though quiet inside, Uallath is loud when he wants to be. His physical voice is like a clarion, ringing out into the wide world to draw others to his banner. He doesn't use it often outside of Thread, but when he does, he will be persistent until he is noticed.

Movement and Growth

Bulky and built, this muscled bronze moves with purpose. He is graceful and quick, but won't enter somewhere or move into position until he's certain it's the right thing to do. Therefore, he will often be the last into the barracks, or will let all the greens and the two golds in first. This may become an issue if the weyrlingmasters have some specific order in mind, but otherwise, he'll find his own place rather easily. If it's possible to let him find his place before lessons, it might make it easier on you, his rider.

Uallath will grow slowly, for the most part, then overnight, every few sevens, he will grow larger, and almost appear to be a different dragon altogether. His wings will grow wider first, then his limbs will get bulkier and longer, and then, finally his body and his head. However, his head will always seem to lag behind just a bit. It doesn't seem to be outlandishly smaller than the rest of him, but in his rare vain moments, he may mention (especially when he spots himself in a flat portion of a body of water) that his head is smaller than 'it ought to be'.

Flights

As previously stated, this bronze is felicitous and preferential to all female dragons. When one is glowing, that steps up a notch. He will bring her things if that's what she needs, or if she wants left alone, he'll be nowhere nearby. Or at least far enough away to watch without annoying her.

In flights, he will try to take your preferences into account. If you really like the lady, then he will put out his absolute best. There is no guarantee, however, that he won't push forward even without that consideration. He does have the biological imperative, and he knows he can take care of a gold or green the way she needs to. It's not arrogance, per se, merely self-confidence.

Hamish: Personal escort of the princess.
William Wallace: Aye.
Hamish: Musta made an impression.
William Wallace: Aye.
Hamish: I didn't think you were in the tent that long.

Eating Habits

This bronze is extremely preferential even in his eating habits. He will let whoever else is in the area eat first, and then he will choose the animal that appears to be the oldest or slowest. His reasoning is that they'd be slaughtered more painfully by the wild felines. If he's recalled something from the other dragons that make him think one of the beasts would die

Egg

Egg Name: Eternal Flame Contained Egg
Egg Desc: The surface of the egg appears translucent, giving view to the pure orange center. A conglomeration of variegated hues, from a dark umber to a brighter tangerine lend credence to the theory that the interior may be alight. When touched, however, it remains as cool and smooth as the others it lays among.
Egg Inspiration: This clutch made me go back and look to see what different stones I'd heard of looked like. I looked at the carnelian, and it looked like fire inside a ball to me. So, I wrote it up this way.

Hatching Foo

EGGPOSE1: Eternal Flame Contained Egg flickers. And wiggles. It begins to crack at the very top, and then falls still.

HATCHING_POSE: Starting from the very top of the Eternal Flame Contained Egg, tiny cracks appear and shell begins to fall away. A large red-tinged bronze hatchling peeks out from his shell. Two good strong kicks, and the Fierce and Free Painted Bronze Hatchling is now free. He gives a wild bugle, tosses his head and flutters his wings, and then strides purposefully toward the candidates.

PUBLIC_IMPRESSION: There is no dallying about this. Fierce and Free Painted Bronze Hatchling does not want to encourage false hopes, nor does he want to make his chosen wait. With purpose and determination, after all of the ladies have passed him, he marches directly to the tall and meaty lad with the mottled sandy hair and lifts his gaze to meet that of his new lifemate.

PRIVATE_IMPRESSION: The first sound you hear in your mind is the soft rushing of water, as though a brook is nearby. The smells associated with that brook, new grass, a sharp fishy smell and several others, begin to filter through your nose increasingly strongly. However, before they can get overwhelming, they are pulled back, corralled. A deep basso voice, colored with a timbre coveted by the Harper Hall speaks softly. « Oh, lad. I didn't mean t' overwhelm you. I'm Uallath. Could I trouble you for a bite? » The brook falls silent, and your mind is warmed near a crackling fire. Just enough to keep you paying attention, though, because these Sands are hot. « Well, now. I've forgotten to call you by name. You're my J'ret, and always will be. Together, we'll be free. »
